It is very expensive but it is a good system. If we want to bring down cost then we should stop the use of emergency rooms as primary care. If a person fails to pay their doctor bills then garnish their wages, seize their assets, or find other ways to collect the debt owed. If a doctor or hospital takes a loss on one patient that cost is passed to another person. Hospitals and doctors can not make a profit by giving free service. If you went to school for over 25 years (from grade school through med school) you would want to recoup the money you invested in your profession.
